    The City of Martinsburg is Seeking Volunteers

    The City of Martinsburg is seeking volunteers from among its residents to fill immediate vacancies in the following Boards and Commissions. Interested parties should submit a letter of interest to Mayor George Karos, at 232 N. Queen Street Martinsburg, WV 25401.

    Historic Preservation Review Commission (HPRC)

    The City of Martinsburg is seeking one (1) individual to fill a vacancy on the Historic Preservation Review Commission (HPRC). Members of the HPRC are appointed for three (3) year terms and are tasked with reviewing all plans for construction, alteration, repair and designs for structures in public view in the Historic Preservation District, and issuance of Certificates of Appropriateness for work designed to be compatible, harmonious and consistent with original scale, style and character of the structure and neighborhood. More information can be found in Article X of the Martinsburg Zoning Ordinance. The HPRC meets on the first Monday of every month at 7 PM.

     Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA)

    The City of Martinsburg is seeking two (2) alternate members to fill vacancies on the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). Members of the BZA are appointed for three (3) year terms. BZA members have the power to hear and decide on Administrate Appeals, Special Exceptions and Variance requests, under the guidelines of Article IX of the Martinsburg Zoning Ordinance.  The BZA meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM.

     Fire Civil Service Commission

    The City of Martinsburg is seeking one (1) member to fill a vacancy on the Fire Civil Service Commission. Commissioners are appointed for four (4) years. Members of the Fire Civil Service Commission supervise all examinations held for new hires and promotional exams, in respect to ability, character and merit. Commissioners also conduct hearings, as necessary, in instances where charges have been brought, or in cases of removal, reduction in rank or suspension, against members of the Fire Department.

     Board of Code Appeals (BOCA)

    The City of Martinsburg is seeking one (1) member to fill a vacancy on the Board of Code Appeals (BOCA). One member must be an architect, or structural or civil engineer. The BOCA hears all appeals relative to the enforcement of all codes set forth in Section 1711.01 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Martinsburg, and votes to reverse or affirm the decision appealed from, in whole or in part.

    M-BC Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (CVB)

    The City of Martinsburg is seeking one (1) member to fill a vacancy on the M-BC Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) Board.  Board members are appointed for two (2) year terms.  The M-BC CVB Board meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at the M-BC CVB located at 126 E. Race Street.

    Human Relations Committee (HRC)

    The City of Martinsburg is seeking two (2) members to fill vacancies on the Human Relations Committee (HRC). HRC members serve two (2) year terms. These citizens are selected because they reflect the diversity of the population of the City of Martinsburg and because of their knowledge and expertise in the areas which may be the subject of equal opportunity and affirmative action. The purpose of the Committee is to advise the City on equal opportunity and affirmative action issues and in matters relating to overall community relations. The Committee will also monitor and review the implementation of the plan and keep the Mayor, City Council and City officials advised on an on-going basis. The Human Relations Committee meets on an as-needed, generally quarterly, basis.

     Parking Authority

    The City of Martinsburg is seeking two (2) members to fill vacancies on the Parking Authority. Parking Authority members serve for three (3) years and are tasked with taking the steps and proceedings necessary to establish, operate and finance automobile parking facilities, including buildings, lots and other facilities in accordance with WV Code. The Parking Authority meets on an as-needed basis
