FULL TIME PUBLIC WORKS-LABORER

 The City of Martinsburg has an immediate opening for a full time Public Works- Laborer.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required for position. Duties include performing manual labor tasks for various street and sanitation operations. Duties will include, but not be limited to, assisting with waste, recyclable and miscellaneous collections, performing traffic control in City crew work areas, cleaning and maintaining City vehicles.   

 Position assists mechanics with shop duties, and assists in City construction projects including digging drainage ditches, culvert maintenance, concrete work and repair of streets and roads. Cuts grass, trims and maintains trees, and assists in landscaping duties and brush removal. Loads and unloads heavy material from trucks and vans. 

Employee must be able to meet all physical requirements of the job including the ability to work outside, regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and regularly perform physical labor. Valid driver’s license required for position. $29,074 with excellent benefit package. CITY OF MARTINSBURG

CASHIER I

 The City of Martinsburg is accepting applications for the position of Full Time Cashier I-Finance Department. Position requires high school diploma or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as accounting, typing and data processing.

The successful candidate would perform clerical and computerized cashier duties, receive and process cash, checks and credit cards as payment forms, make proper change accurately and promptly, sort and process mail, utilize a multi-line switchboard to direct incoming phone calls and address citizen visits concerning City services. Candidate must be able to successfully multi-task when high customer volume and interruption occurs. Position is responsible for other duties as assigned. 

Strong customer service skills are required as well as the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

The position is a pay grade 7 with a starting wage of $29,074 and includes an excellent benefit package.

 LABORER-WATER

 The City of Martinsburg Utility Department has an immediate opening for a full time Laborer-Water.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required. Candidate will perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled routine manual labor tasks assisting operators with various duties at the Sewer Treatment Plant or assisting maintenance crews on repair and work crews as assigned. Skill in knowledge and operation of various tools and equipment required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Applicant must be able to meet all physical requirements of the job including the ability to work outside in all types of weather and the ability to work in confined spaces. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Extreme physical labor over long period of time is required of the position. Competitive Examination and Certified List of Eligibility

 to Probationary Police

Officer in the Martinsburg Police Department

 

Notice is hereby given pursuant to the West Virginia Code 8-14-13, that position(s) for the rank of Probationary Police Officer exist in the Martinsburg Police Department and will be filled by appointment by the City Manager from a list of eligibles certified by the Martinsburg Police Civil Service Commission.


In order to be placed on the list of eligibles, an interested party must:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 40 at the time of application.
  • Secure, from the City Recorder’s office or online at cityofmartinsburg.org, an application for employment for the position of probationary Police Officer. The correct Application MUST be completed, verified and returned to the City Recorder no later than 5 PM on Thursday, October 31, 2019. Applicants will be notified of the time and place of testing, and must undergo and achieve a passing score on a competitive written exam, on Saturday, November 9, 2019 beginning at 8 AM.
  • On the date of exam, successful applicants will achieve a passing score on a physical agility screening test for WV state and local law enforcement officers. Certification of a physician will be required prior to participating in any physical testing and must be presented on the day of the exam.
  • Undergo a complete medical examination testing the applicant’s general physical condition in a manner prescribed by the Commission.
  • Undergo a complete psychiatric examination testing the applicant’s mental stability for appointment in a manner prescribed by the Commission.
  • Submit to and cooperate with authorities in a background investigation as to the applicant’s suitability for the position.
  • Appear for scheduled oral interviews.
  • Submit to any additional examinations as to the applicant’s suitability for the position in a manner prescribed by the Commission.

Probationary Police Officer is a pay grade 18, beginning at $42,448. Employees of the City of Martinsburg are provided a range of fringe benefits including vacation leave, sick leave, personal leave, health/life/dental and vision insurance, longevity pay, police pension and modified take home vehicle policy.

Applicants with a current WV Law Enforcement Certification will receive a $3,000.00 sign on bonus, if hired.

West Virginia residency is NOT required, however, officers must live within 25 air miles of the Town Square within 90 days of employment.

The City of Martinsburg is always accepting police and fire applications, which will be placed on the list for notification for the next test. There is no way to determine when that is, as we do not know when we may have turnover or when the current list of eligible candidates might be exhausted.
