Planning Department

A major responsibility of the Planning Department is to create and implement the City's Comprehensive Plan, which is updated every ten years. Citizen and business input is being sought for this important task.

The City of Martinsburg Planning Department provides a variety of services to the residents and businesses of Martinsburg related to the physical development of the City. This department is responsible for land use planning, zoning administration, development review, historic preservation, as well as other urban development activities. Additionally, the department provides staff support to the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Historic Preservation Review Commission.

The department also reviews proposed subdivisions, site plans, and building permit applications to ensure compliance with the City of Martinsburg Zoning Ordinance and several other local regulations.
