The Planning, Zoning and Building Department is responsible for a wide range of tasks related to the growth, development and sustainability of the City of Martinsburg. A major responsibility of the Department is to ensure all activities are consistent with Martinsburg's Comprehensive Plan, which is updated every ten years.
The City of Martinsburg Planning, Zoning and Building Department provides a variety of services to the residents and businesses of Martinsburg related to the physical development of the City. This Department is responsible for land use planning, zoning administration, development review, issuance of building permits historic preservation, as well as other urban development activities. Additionally, the department provides staff support to the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Historic Preservation Review Commission.
The Department also reviews proposed subdivisions, site plans, and building permit applications to ensure compliance with the City of Martinsburg Zoning Ordinance, the Martinsburg Subdivision Ordinance and several other local regulations.
